Professor John Davies, Strathclyde University
It’s the first time I’ve heard John Davies speak and he is very entertaining. In short he was disputing the neccessity of looking at Addiction as a disease and also the use of the word CAN”T.
As in..
I can’t stop using drugs
I liked this as when I’m speaking to people in EFT sessions it’s a statement people often tell themselves which hinders and holds them back from making the changes they may desire. It’s about empowering in them that they CAN. We all have the capacity to change and although there are neurological process occurring when someone uses a substance it does not mean that this is the only reasons for an addiction/dependency/behaviour etc etc. John points out that instead of looking at one theory or model of addiction we need to look at the whole picture to explain it.
There’s no such thing as can’t!
