It’s been a while – here’s an update! August 2012

Hi all,
It’s been a while. Lots going on so I thought it was about time I wrote a post.
Awareness & Training
I’ve just finished delivering a series of workshops for Halford’s Autocentres for their UK wide apprentices as part of their training. Groups of mainly lads in their late teens makes for some very interesting discussions as you can imagine.
We have some schools awareness work in the new term and more staff training coming up in Birmingham and further afield in Leeds & Liverpool.
Supporting Recovery in the Community
Park House residential service had their open day on the 13th July which was a celebration of all the people who have been successful in their recovery since it opened. The National Treatment Agency’s Mark Gilman gave a great speech and residents were given an opportunity to speak up and receive awards for their achievments. Ace cakes made by residents too. I had one small one of course, just to be supportive ; )
Last week after Birmingham’s recovery forum, it was great to see UKRF‘s AnneMarie and Alistair in our neck of the woods. The good news is it has been decided that the host of the UK Recovery Walk 2013 will be …..Birmingham! Very exciting. I’ll be helping out with the communications/social media side of things. I’ve set up the Twitter account already, you can follow @UKRW2013.
More pressing though is THIS year’s recovery walk which is to be held in Brighton on 29th September. You can register on the website if you fancy supporting the event and follow @UKRW2012 for updates on Twitter. Here’s my post on last year’s Recovery Walk in Cardiff.
Emotional Freedom Technique & EFT for Recovery
Remember EFT can be great for all sort of issues and , unlike some other therapies you can use it as a self help tool. Stress, Anxiety, Phobias, Cravings and much more. I recently ran a workshop for EFT for Weight Loss at the Meridian Centre.
After successful pilot groups and one to one sessions with treatment services and service user groups it’s going to be good to get out to more community led groups. Soon we’ll be introducing it in a prison too which will be very interesting. I’ve been looking into funding in order to get Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) out there to support recovery. Watch this space.
Social Media

I’ve run a few Twitter workshops in the last few months in Solihull and Birmingham and had people from various businesses and community organisations coming along to learn how to better use Twitter. If you need any help in getting to grips with it just give me a call. I’ve also been helping people set up their own WordPress sites. There are a lot of people out there who need a simple website but seem to think it’s difficult or they need to fork out a lot of cash. Not true! The next Social Media & Twitter workshop I will be running will be for Solihull SUSTAIN and is free to Voluntary & Community organisations in Solihull. If that applies to you you can book your place here. I’ll put some dates in soon for more open access workshops or if you are an individual or organisation that would benefit then get in touch.
DJ Stace?
After meeting the CEO of Headline Media who run community station Switch Radio at a networking event I was asked if I fancied presenting or linking up for other projects. I have some ideas about audible recovery which I hope to be able to take forward. They’ve also this week offered me a daytime show on Monday mornings. It’s all a bit new at the moment but I believe in taking opportunities as they arise however different they may be.
Looking forward to…
The HIT Hot Topics conference – 20th September
UK Recovery Walk 2012 – Brighton & Hove 29th September
We’ll have some more news very soon so watch this space. I’m looking forward to the rest of the year and being able to support & connect with even more people in the community
Thanks for reading!
